Discovery of Learning's Online Program is for families looking for an exciting alternative to traditional classroom instruction.
In our multi-age virtual classroom, children spanning 2-4 grades come together for a child-centered, developmental, project-based, hands-on approach to learning. Children are greeted by name when they enter the live virtual classroom and are encouraged to be active members of the online learning environment. Learning takes place at each child's pace, giving them opportunities to choose how to approach the educational concepts and extension activities while being guided with engaging demonstrations and interactive lessons.
Our Online Program Subjects:
In this unique setting, our teachers work collaboratively with students to provide guidance and personalized instruction in Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Art.
Language Arts activities introduce a variety of literary genres and create opportunities to build expressive and receptive Language Arts skills.
Math concepts use a play-based method that facilitates learning a variety of math strategies that apply to each child's current math level.
Science units feature teacher-created, hands-on, engaging, educational concepts, and project ideas that incorporate the Physical Sciences of Air Pressure, Aeronautics, Physics of Light, Sound and Motion as well as Chemistry with the support of Supercharged Science Curriculum.
Social Studies units feature custom, hands-on, engaging, educational concepts, and project ideas, created by our teachers that will take the children around the world to learn more about the cultures, history and geography of various continents, countries, and states.
The arts are incorporated into all our daily classes to help bring learning to life for each student.
A Typical Day at Discovery of Learning
When observing one of our online classes, you will find children engaged in a multitude of educational and community-building activities. Children will be logged on for the full session, with the teacher facilitating break times and encouraging opportunities for movement throughout the session.
The feeling of classroom structure comes from a teacher-led routine, which is flexible and flows with the children's natural development and learning styles. Below is a typical virtual class session routine:
