Students attend campus from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm and join our full-day students in exploring a variety of Elective Subjects. Each day is dedicated to one elective which rotates every 8 weeks. This allows students to learn about a topic in-depth and decide if it is an area of interest to continue pursuing or knowledge that has helped develop their general skills. Each program year hosts 4 – elective sessions. Additional weeks are added to the session to cover any campus closures throughout the year. Families may opt to enroll in one session or all four, space may be limited and priority is given to full-day students. Classes are developed at each campus and a schedule of courses will be released at least one month prior to the start of each session. Below are the dates for the 2023-24 Program Year

Discovery of Learning’s Inspired Learning Day (Days vary by Campus)

Inspired Learning Day is offered 1 Day from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm and is dedicated to encouraging all children to explore their interests & passions through self-directed and collaborative, multi-curricular passion projects fostered and supported by DOL teachers. This day also includes a PE class which allows children to build camaraderie, friendship and collaboration skills as they work together to play group sports and other fun, group based physical activities.

Our teachers will facilitate and mentor the children as they dive into individual or group passion-driven learning, taking pride in and ownership of their education. Being able to express the desire to learn about a specific topic or develop an idea and transform it into a whole project is our vision. Our program focuses on the idea that each child can learn, they just all learn differently. At Discovery of Learning, the teachers work alongside your child, giving each child tools based on their needs to learn to problem-solve, learn to communicate effectively and use those tools in everyday life.

A few of our Self-Directed Day goals are to help your child:

-Build confidence, independence, motivation to develop different skills for lifelong learning

-Identify their interests and passions through careful observation of the teacher and tracking the children’s ideas

-Deepen their understanding and knowledge of chosen subjects and learn how to cross apply skills to multiple subjects

-Take on leadership of projects that are based on their own ideas, work collaboratively with peers and teachers to bring their plans to life.

-Build stronger communication skills as they work with others with different ability levels, communication styles and personalities, as well as speaking in front of a group of peers

-Develop problem solving skills as they work through a projects development

-Enhance creativity as we apply multiple subjects and skills to a project or activity and utilize self-expression
